The Story that Launched My Blog

Have you ever watched or read something that spoke directly to you? Something that made you say, “Whoa, this message was for me”?

For many years I thought I should write a book to help grieving mothers, but it just never seemed to come together. Then I started watching videos on how to start a blog and that was that. In November 2024, I decided to turn my pain into purpose, but I made a crucial mistake. I got so caught up in designing how it would look that I forgot about the content. When I hit a frustrating design flaw, I gave up. What started as a desire to help moms like me ended with “this is just too hard.” For almost a year, the dream sat there. Half-built. Waiting.

Then October 16, 2025 arrived. I watched Hugh Bonneville and The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square’s narration of the story behind the hymn It Is Well with My Soul by Horatio Spafford on YouTube. I thought it would be about the music. Instead, it told me about how a mother and father turned their unimaginable loss into a life-long purpose.

In November 1873, Anna Spafford and her four daughters set sail for Christmas in France. The ship collided with another vessel and sank. Anna survived. Her daughters did not.

Her husband Horatio, in his grief, wrote the hymn It Is Well With My Soul.

Anna, the lone survivor, was in despair. What would her life be without her children? But in that darkness, she heard a voice in her mind and heart: “You are spared for a purpose, Anna. You have a work to do.”

And she did. They had more children. They moved to Jerusalem to serve people of all backgrounds. Their legacy of service continues today.

When I heard “You are spared for a purpose, Anna,” something clicked. That’s what I’d been trying to do back in November 2024—turn my pain into purpose. But I’d gotten stuck in the design, lost in the details, and given up.

Anna didn’t give up. She answered the call. She did the work.

And on October 16, 2025, her story gave me permission to try again.

My pain had a purpose. I NEEDED to do something with my blog. I needed to tell my story. It wasn’t just something to do—it was something I NEEDED to do.

First, I shared the video that had made such a profound impact. My caption simply read: “I came across this today and wanted to share it with you. It is well with my soul!❤️”

Then I watched a tutorial and set to work again with new determination. I set a launch date. This time, instead of focusing on design details, I focused on the mothers I wanted to help. And while I did have things to work through, I didn’t quit.

I created a blog for grieving mothers and women who feel lost and unsure of where to go to find purpose and rediscover themselves again. If that’s you, you came to the right place!

I had a launch date scheduled for early 2026, but life had other plans. Technical issues tied me in knots. Grief work couldn’t be rushed. Some days I had to step back. The date came and went. But I kept showing up, kept learning, kept processing. In June 2026, I decided: this is the time. Not because everything worked out perfectly, but because I was ready to launch anyway—imperfections and all.

Did something strike a chord with you? Take a look around my blog and see what I have to offer. Invite your friends to come and rediscover what they might be missing.

Not quite ready to take action? That’s okay. Check out the video that inspired me. It may just inspire you too. To find this video on YouTube just search Hugh Bonneville It is Well With My Soul.
